Inspired by exploring a dry river bed in South Australia where I came across a glistening pool left after rain. I was fascinated with the colours reflecting the sky, and the peeling bark and broken branches of the gum trees strewn over the forest floor.

Ghost Gum Creek
This is one of a series of paintings I made in my studio after spending time in Central Australia where Ghost Gums have long been associated with the presence of spirits amongst the Aboriginal people. The starkness of the white bark contrasted with the shots of saturated colour amongst the undergrowth and light on water inspired me to paint this memory.

There had been a downpour and the mossy banks of the river were dark and sodden. Then the sky cleared and the glow of the sun going down turned the tannic water into a multitude of pinks and the moss glistened russet and shiny green.
